Ram was HDFC's 3rd employee when it opened its doors in 1994. Ram was responsible for all IT activities of the Bank as well as its subsidiaries. He supported the entire range of banking services from Retail Banking, to International operations. He managed a team of 350 IT professionals who were responsible for software development to vendor management.

Ram is a founder-member of the Global Advisory Board of NCR Corporation and a member of the Asia- Pacific Technology Advisory Board of VISA International and also a Member of the Reserve Bank of India's IT Advisory Committee. He is on the Executive Advisory Board of Symantec and Sun Microsystems and the Services Strategy Council of Oracle Corporation. Formerly the Chairman of the Board of Flexcel International.

Ram retired from HDFC in June, 2008 to pursue his own interests.
